    Tasmania overtime calculator

Use this Tasmania paycheck calculator to estimate take-home pay after Australian resident PAYG income tax and the Medicare levy for FY 2025–26. Enter a monthly salary (typical for salaried roles) or switch to fortnightly / hourly if that matches how you are paid.

Tasmania has no state wage income tax in this model — federal PAYG and Medicare drive the estimate.

Results are planning estimates — not an official payslip, tax advice, or a substitute for ATO / payroll software. Optional residency, HELP, Medicare levy surcharge, and salary sacrifice can be toggled in the calculator.

Resident PAYG income tax

Australian residents have a tax-free threshold of $18,200 for 2025–26, then progressive rates of 16%, 30%, 37%, and 45% on higher bands.

Medicare levy

Most residents pay a 2% Medicare levy on taxable income, with a low-income shade-in. If you earn above the MLS base ($93,000 for singles) without private hospital cover, turn off Private hospital cover to estimate the surcharge (1% / 1.25% / 1.5%).

Foreign residents

Foreign residents use different PAYG brackets with no tax-free threshold (32.5% from the first dollar up to $135,000). Switch Tax residency in the calculator if you are not an Australian resident for tax purposes.

HELP / HECS

If you have a study loan, compulsory repayments use marginal rates from FY 2025–26 (nil up to $67,000 repayment income). Turn on HELP in the calculator to include an estimate.

Superannuation

Employer Superannuation Guarantee (currently 12%) is usually paid on top of salary and does not reduce cash take-home unless you salary-sacrifice.

Overtime in Australia

Overtime loadings are usually set by Modern Awards or enterprise agreements (often 1.5× then 2×). Use the overtime calculator for gross OT, then this tool for tax estimates.

Example: $60,000 salary, paid monthly

Someone earning $5,000 gross per month ($60,000/year) in Tasmania will typically see PAYG income tax and Medicare levy withheld. Use the calculator above with monthly frequency to explore your own figures.

Frequently asked questions

How is a Tasmania paycheck taxed?

Employee take-home is driven by federal resident PAYG income tax and the Medicare levy. States and territories do not add a wage income tax in this estimate model.

What if I am a foreign resident?

Switch Tax residency to Foreign resident. Non-residents have no $18,200 tax-free threshold and usually do not pay the Medicare levy in this model.

What is the Medicare levy surcharge?

If your income is above $93,000 (singles tiers) and you do not have appropriate private hospital cover, MLS may apply at 1%, 1.25%, or 1.5%. Turn off Private hospital cover to estimate it.

Is HELP / HECS included?

Not by default. Enable HELP in the calculator if you have a study loan — we use simplified 2025–26 marginal repayment rates.

Is super deducted from my pay?

Ordinary employer SG contributions are usually on top of salary. Use salary sacrifice % only if you redirect some of your cash pay into super.
